Phytoremediation

Phytogation (grey water) uses drip tubing with customized watering output to place leachate or grey water to a biological plant system (PETS*) for a specific soil and water quality improvement. --- Use of natural biological systems to improve water quality. This includes the use of plants, soil, microbes, and water in specific combination to direct a solution. These systems maximize water output to match plant uptake and soil permeability resulting in maximum evapotranspiration**

Irrigation (fresh water) uses drip tubing with customized watering output to assure the most efficient use of water in supplying plant uptake and growth, preventing the potential for moisture-deficit stress. Live plants, whether a crop, ornamental, or turf system improves the habitat and health below the soil surface. Natural biological systems improve water quality, soil tilth, permeability, and nutrient uptake. These systems maximize yield output to match soil moisture to plant performance.

GREEN TECHNOLOGY - Phyto Irrigation Solutions Systems and Best Uses

When planning your system, first things first. Phyto Irrigation Solutions needs to help you develop or create the right habitat. First we need to develop and manage a “living soil” vadose zone# habitat - The top 15 inches of the vadose zone will or need to have:

1) permeable soil medium of minerals and organic matter.
2) Living plant roots
3) living soil organisms
4) air
5) heat
6) and nothing will happen without moisture (30-60% soil water) this leads to maximum biological soil activity.

Our Solutions

*PETS – Phyto EvapoTranspiration System – leachate## or other grey water pumped continuously through a field or orchard. The plant system works for the purpose of:
1) maximizing transpiration of H2O to the atmosphere.
2) Bind contaminants in the plant root zone
3) provide plant nutrient needs
4) manage the soil habitat for maximum microbial breakdown on specific contaminants

The right GREEN system solutions for specific environmental challenges:

ETCap™ – (poplar/willow acreage) – plant system used with or without phytogation on a landfill cap
VETIVER PHYTO CAP
(vetiver grass acreage, warm climates) – plant system used with phytogation on a landfill cap
EBuffer® -G (poplar grove) - static system - water pumping system - hydraulic control
EBuffer® R (poplar riparian strip) - groundwater interception trench/root system
EGation – The specific use of phytogation using tree root system (the bioreactor) to clean groundwater by pumping water to the surface and drip water over the tree rows vadose biological zone.

*evapotranspiration – combination of two processes – evaporation and transpiration:

1) evaporation… converting liquid moisture into water vapor, and
2) transpiration… is water released during the photosynthesis process (plants releasing water and oxygen)
#vadose zone – the rooting area below ground surface – it is the soil area where roots are growing and thriving.
##leachate – any water that passes through and or comes in contact with physical waste at a sanitary landfill.

PETS is a valuable and economic way to clean the water, and prevents the higher costs related to mechanically remove constituents through a water treatment system. The waste, and technology used during the waste fill process yields leachate that is fairly benign, to contaminated. Contamination in leachate varies in specific constituents and saturation levels in the water collected, so no two landfills are the same. Most contaminants in leachate are actually plant nutrients such as nitrogen, and phosphorus, so plant- use makes sense. Phyto Irrigation Solutions and its partners are committed to keeping the contaminants in/on the landfill where they were created.
